What is cytology?

 Cytology is the medical specialty that studies in the microscope cells that originate from different areas of the body.

 The aim is to diagnose whether it is a cancer or precancerous lesions. It can also diagnose a benign disease or inflammation (fungi, coccobacteria, trichomonias, herpes, etc.).

For example:

 It can examine breast cells (FNA - Thin needle puncture, teat secretion, etc.) to diagnose whether it is a cancer or a benign breast disease.

It can examine cells from the uterine cervix (Pap test) to diagnose whether it is an HPV infection or an intraepithelial lesion or a cancer.
